About us
Based in Tianfu New District,  the School of Foreign Languages is committed to serving Sichuan Province and extending its influence to the Southwestern Region and even the whole country. Under the principle of developing high-caliber professionals with practical foreign language competence via new mechanism, we are always trying to optimize our practical teaching system and blaze new trails by adopting industry-oriented training, establishing the ECP talent training mode and promoting integration between course and job requirements and between course and certificate. Our mission is to cultivate practical inter-disciplinary talents with solid foreign language foundation, distinctive professional features, and outstanding  vocational skills, who are expected to meet the job requirements of foreign enterprises, translation companies, tourism industry, educational organizations, government departments, hotel and convention business.
 
Major Strengths
In accordance with the Belt and Road Initiatives, the State Council has approved Chengdu as the national cross-border e-commerce pilot zone and strengthened its support for establishing comprehensive service system in the Western Regions covering international trade, cross-border e-commerce, hotel and MICE industry. In response to this new trend, the School of Foreign Languages has made further efforts to cultivate professionals in commerce secretary, cross-border e-commerce, applied translation, tourism & hotel management, and MICE industry, to meet the needs of increasing globalization of regional economy.
 
Programs & Orientations
The curriculum of the School is closely linked with the demand of the market. We combine the first and second classroom and integrate theory with practice, which fully embodies our philosophy of “solid foreign language foundation, distinctive professional features, and outstanding  vocational skills.” The School now provides two undergraduate programs: English (with three orientations: Commerce & Secretary, Tourism & Hotel Management & MICE Industry), Japanese (with two orientations:  Commerce & Secretary, Tourism & Hotel Management), and two specialty programs: Business English, Applied English. Currently the School has 2,000 students and staff members. 
 
Objectives of Undergraduate Programs
Our English and Japanese undergraduate programs aim at training specialized practical and interdisciplinary  talents who are fully developed in morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetics, competent not only in English or Japanese listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating, but also in other qualities, like humanity, art, career, etc., proficient in English or Japanese, certain cultural knowledge, basic skills of computer and information retrieval, our students can serve the regional economic development, engaged in trade, secretarial work, translation, tourism, hotel management, convention and exhibition business, education, and administration.
 
Objectives of Specialty Diploma Programs
Our specialty diploma programs, including Business English and Applied English, aim at developing students’ basic English knowledge, cultural knowledge, professionalism and innovation ability. We train students to be skilled, equipped with necessary knowledge of international commerce, skillful operation in foreign trade, good cross-cultural communication expertise and secretarial ability. Our students are expected to seek careers in foreign trade, cross-border e-commerce, logistics, customs declaration, network marketing, administration, public relations, secretarial work, as well as translation, education, tourism, exhibition and convention. 
 
Teaching staff
We have an academically-strong faculty made up of the experienced and dedicated teachers. The total 103 full-time and part-time teachers are all from key universities both at home and abroad. For English major, there is a staff of 43 people, with 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 3 returnees with overseas master degree, and 2 foreign teachers. For Japanese major, there is a staff of 8, including 2 professors, 3 associate professors, a foreign teacher, and 3 returnees with overseas master degree. 13 of them have double qualifications with junior or senior professional titles.
 
Teaching Facilities
The School has thirteen professional language labs (including Cross-border E-commerce Practice Center and International Trade/Advanced Translation Practice Center). We now have 86488 books and 89655 electronic books.

 
Training bases
The School has established 25 bases for internship and cultivating talents, meanwhile we have set up programs for short-term self-study higher education examination and college degree examination. We also offer overseas internship programs in US, UK, Singapore, Japan., Korea and Thailand,providing ample opportunities of teaching, internship and employment for students.
 
Students activities
The Foreign Languages School has established five associations connected with language learning such as "English Lovers Association," "Speech and Eloquence", and "English Corner", "OFFICE HOUR", “Japanese Island”, Morning Reading Club, etc., joined by foreign teachers regularly. They hold various activities regularly like Reading Report, English Corner, Film Dubbing Contest, Video Clip Recording Contest, Cultural Festival, Micro-Film Contest, etc.
 
 
Achievements of Academic Research and Teaching Reform
The School has completed 6 provincial research projects, 3 municipal research projects and 10 college research projects. More than 50 teachers have participated in various research projects. The School has published 5 academic books, 9 textbooks, over 140 academic papers, including 17 papers in core journals.   American Literature was awarded as a provincial top-quality course in 2009. Practical English Pronunciation and Intonation was awarded as College Top-quality Resource Sharing Course. Professor Huang Yi, pace-setter of the English Program, was awarded the title of “Advanced Worker” of Sichuan Federation of Social Science Circle in November 2012. Talk about China in English, a popular science work, has been chosen as “National Excellent Popular Social Science Book” in July 2013, the first time Sichuan won the national popular social science award.

Third Prize in the 1st National Foreign Language Teaching Contest “, Sichuan Division, 2010.
Third Prize of Literature Team in the 1st Young Teachers Teaching Contest hold by Education Department in Sichuan, 2012.
Second Prize and Winning Award in the 4th “National Foreign Language Teaching Contest Sichuan Division 2013.”
Title of “Advanced Collectives in Admission” and “Advanced Collectives in Employment” in Sichuan Business and Technology University 2013.
Third Prize of English Major Team in the 6th  “National Foreign Language Teaching Contest Sichuan Division 2015”.
 
Awards of Students
In 2013, two students won second prize in National English Writing Contest for Higher Technical & Vocational Colleges Sichuan Division.
In 2013, 1 student won third prize in National English Writing Contest (Undergraduate Level) Sichuan Division.
In 2014, three students won one Special Prize, one First Prize and one Third Prize in the 5th National English Writing Contest for Higher Technical & Vocational Colleges Sichuan Division.
In 2014, one student won third prize in the 5th National English Writing Contest  for Higher Technical and Vocational Colleges.
In 2014, 1 student won first prize in National English Writing Contest, Sichuan Division.
In 2015, two students won a third prize in National Reading Contest Sichuan Division and a third prize in National Reading Contest Sichuan Division.
40 students won first, second and third prizes in the National English Competition for College Students (English Majors) in recent years.
The average graduation rate is 99.7 percent, degree awarding rate 94.4%, and the employment rate 95.1%. Each year more than 10 students are admitted by famous universities as postgraduate students, such as Sichuan University, Southwest University and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.
